Originally by: Sentinal One Relax people, back in 2006 and before patch days use to be patch " DAYS!!! " Aka, more then 1. Your lucky to get the quick patch's and fix's you do now.
Back then we use to play with a super lagged market, database server crashing left and right and the server could go down at any minute due to node death issues. It use to take CCP an entire week to make the server stable again and that was with 2-3h downtime after the patch daily so they could deploy hot fix's to make everything awesome again. Now i know it's not most peoples strong suits to be able to wait, and most of them suffer from some sort of compulsive OCD but come on.
Ahh this take me back :) Infact the only thing that has annoyed me so far about the down time, is them not updating the client info screen to present me with a fresh ETA for it being On-line.
As to Eve (CCP) providing 23/7 uptime, screw that, I don't want to pay any more for my subscriptions nor wait 6 months for minor patches to be moved from testing to live. I think its just that because up untill the recent down times they have done such a good job, everybody is on there case with two minor boobs.
Even more impressive is your gona get your SP's back for the last one, somthing I never expected CCP to do.
And for the complaining IT bods, Eve is not a critical service. CCP's Q&A for this product is very high, compair this to a non-MMO where after you buy it you have to wait a few weeks for a patch to make it work. Infact the number of roll backs done 2009-2010 is in my oppinion very very low. Considering how complex the game Eve is I think that speaks volumes for the current Q&A proccess. Finaly also remember Eve is a Prototype, there are no others like it. Other things have similar parts ie back end databases, forums and such, however complete systems are more than the sum of there parts. Additionaly, if this was a corporate suit, each area would be broken down into smaller parts because it so difficult to manage so many diffrent aspects in one design, which whilst improving uptime and time to patch, it would not really be much good as a game anymore.
